Det er efterhånden en tradition at vi har en whiskysmagning på Royal Metal Fest, og igen i år er det SMWS Ambassadør Tonny Nielsen der guider os igennem en perlerække af nøje udvalgte single Cask whiskyer!

Tonny skriver om smagningen:

Jeg har igennem året samlet flasker sammen fra rejser, og opkøbt på auktioner, med henblik på at lave netop denne smagning og de er udvalgt ud fra de præferencer, som jeg har opdaget at metal-folket er vilde med. Årets Royal Metal-smagning kommer ikke til at stå i skyggen af de tidligere, tværtimod tror jeg vi i stedet sætter en ny standard!

Jeg kan allerede løfte sløret for at der vi være masser af røg, men også ting der ikke er røget!

Et par af de udvalgte flasker er:

3.299 Sweet smoke on the water, en 20 års Bowmore på 54,2 %:
The bbq was in full swing, crackling as we added heather, lavender and sweet applewood to the charcoals, the smoke from which danced across the wet sands of the beach. The mussels in creamy white wine sauce and lobster bisque had already been served and we were just searing juicy scallops and king prawns with sweet chilli sauce. Pouring another glass of vintage German Riesling we prepared the smoked duck and ribs with sticky glaze to go with a fennel and cream sauce and pea and ham soup. After 20 years in an ex-Bourbon hogshead this was transferred into a 2nd fill French oak hogshead for the remainder of its maturation.

42.42 Waiter… there’s ash in my coffee, en 9 års Ledaig på 61,2 %
Like sitting atop a campfire we found ourselves engulfed in plumes of scented wood smoke and airborne ash. A salty twang brought the maritime imagery of fish crates and oyster shells on wet sand, perhaps whilst drinking a mocha coffee. The palate carried a tingly spice and the charcoaled sensation of burnt twigs but with the fruity lift of raspberries and blackcurrants with dark chocolate sauce. The finish took a swing towards drier realms and introduced liquorice and burnt herbs with a lingering reek that became sweeter and very moreish with time. After spending 8 years in an ex-bourbon hogshead this was transferred to a new oak barrique for the remainder of its maturation.

Begge de ovenforstående flasker har aldrig været tilgængelig på det danske marked!

Smagningen foregår den 7. april kl. 13.00, og vi skal smage 7 dram.

Mødested vil være foran Voxhall kl. 12.55.
